Newsletter #2

Folders

Your child may have two important folders this year. One is the “Trusted Messenger” folder. This will be sent home with one student per family containing important information and paperwork. The other is the class homework folder. This will go home on Fridays and needs to be returned each Friday.

Birthday Celebrations
While I understand that birthdays are exciting and important events for children, the primary aim of school is learning. Keeping this in mind, we will celebrate birthdays with a chant and a card. Any treats will be served at lunch time in the lunchroom. If your child does not celebrate birthdays or holidays please let me know.

Homework
Students will have homework every week that is at least 4 days long. It will be sent home on Friday and is due the next Friday. Homework usually consists of reading, spelling, and math. Our first homework will be sent home next Friday, September 14th.

Student of the Week

Each child will have a chance to be the student of the week during the year. This includes: presenting their special objects and paper from home and being line leader On the Friday of their week they will bring a Getting to Know you sheet and 2-5 items to share.

Water Bottles
I encourage students to bring a water bottle to school. Please make sure the bottle has a lid that closes as well your child’s name. I will ask students to take their bottles home every Friday for cleaning. Plain water only please!

School Rules
Cummings rules are:
          1. Be Safe
          2. Be Respectful
          3. Be a Learner
We follow these in room 10 and everywhere in the school. Our room rules are a little more specific. Ask your child to show you our rules with hand motions.
Team Ten Rules:
          1. Listen when the teacher is talking.
          2. Follow directions quickly.
          3. Respect yourself, others, and our school.
          4. Raise your hand to speak or stand.
          5. Be safe, be kind, be honest.

Thanks for reading. Jenny
